“Remember Your Creator



Introduction

I.  Solomon reminds young people to seek God early in life (Eccl. 11:9–12:7). A. Ecclesiastes tells us to enjoy life, but don’t forget about the judgment. B. We will all return to the dust from whence we came.

II.  Every year hundreds of thousands of teenagers are subjected to a

commencement speech at their graduation from high school.

A. They listen as their classmates, teachers and administrators tell they what they should expect in life.

B. They are encouraged to pursue their education and dreams.

C. All to often, they are not reminded to seek God first in their lives.

III.  Why should the young remember God in their youth?


Discussion

I.  God Is Your Creator

A. God knows more about you than you will ever know about yourself.

B. “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who

walks to direct his own steps” (Jer. 10:23 ).

C. At an early age you need to “number your days” (Psa. 90:10–12).


II.  It Will Increase Your Chances For A Long Life

A. Obedience to the will of God will increase your chances for a long life. 1. The “first commandment with promise” (Eph. 6:1–3; Deut. 5:16). 2. Length of days and peace (Prov. 3:1–2; 1 Tim. 4:8).

B. Sin is self-destructive (Prov. 1:10–19).

1. God is looking out for our best interests.

2. You might be too young to realize this now.

3. Alcohol, drugs, and reckless living will destroy you.

C. At one time, your parents were exactly the same age that you are now!


III.  You Will Not Forget Him In Your Old Age

A. One of the reasons your parents brought you to Bible class (Prov. 22:6). B. Timothy was the recipient of a faith which had endured through three

generations (2 Tim. 1:5).

C. The reason we do not have more young people like Timothy is because we

lack parents and grandparents like his.

IV.  Your Life Will Be Happier

A. You will not have many of the worries of your friends (Prov. 3:21–26).

B. Six reasons to avoid fornication (1 Cor. 6:13–20). 1. The body is for the Lord (1 Cor. 6:13).

2. The resurrection (1 Cor. 6:14).

3. Join members of Christ to a harlot (1 Cor. 6:15–17). 4. Sin against your own body (1 Cor. 6:18).

5. We are the temple of God (1 Cor. 6:19).

6. Bought with a price (1 Cor. 6:20; 1 Pet. 1:18–19).


V.  Through Your Example, Others Will Be Led To Christ

A. Timothy was to be an example (1 Tim. 4:12–16).

B. The young maid in 2 Kings 5:3 did what she could in a bad situation.

C. You can be an example to your parents in Bible study and devotion.


Conclusion

I.  Enjoy your life, but remember the judgment (Eccl. 11:9).

II.  You have more opportunities than your parents ever dreamed of.

A. Use them well.

B. No matter if you are a doctor, lawyer or Indian chief—put God first! III.  Parents often give wrong reason for telling children to go to school.

A. “Get an education so you can make a lot of money.”

B. “Go to the right school so you can meet the right person to marry.”

C. The real reason for your education is so you may serve God better!
